Preparation for the Upcoming Flu Season
The flu season is just around the corner and here are a few things that can be done to prepare for it.
To reduce one’s chances of becoming sick, one should:
- Wash hands with soap and scrub for 15-30 seconds.
- Always dry hands immediately – bacteria can be transferred more easily with damp and wet hands.
- Use hand sanitizers in addition to hand washing.
At the workplace, important preventative measures in minimizing the risk of becoming sick includes additional and proper cleaning of high-touch surfaces such as doorknobs, tables, and other office equipments. Use disinfectants that are EPA-registered and have proper claims against influenza and or other bacteria. Also, ensure that proper techniques are used when cleaning workplace areas and plan to sanitize and disinfect frequently during the flu season.
Receiving the flu vaccine is highly recommended by health care professionals, however, adequate hand hygiene, disinfecting and sanitizing surfaces can also help reduce the chances of becoming infected with the flu.
