Summer Floor Finish Tips
Summer is the perfect time to perform big floor maintenance jobs such as floor stripping and finishing. The dilemma with the summer season, however, is the added moisture in the air. Excessive moisture in the air can cause a floor finish not to cure properly. This can lead to watery finishes. Here are a few tip you can follow to achieve the desired film on the floor during the summer months.
- Strip the floor the day before –Waiting one day after stripping the floor can help reduce the moisture that was added during the floor stripping process.
- Apply thin coats – Thick coats not only increases dry time, but it also increases the water that is present in the finish. Thin coats have lower water presence and can result in a more evenly formed film.
- Use air conditioning or increase the air circulation – Air conditioners can remove the humidity in the air. If air conditioners are not available, use fans to increase the air circulation.
- Increase the application time between each coating – The increase in humidity can increase the dry time for each coating. Give a little more dry time between each coat during the summer months.
