The US Green Building Council (USGBC) has established a new version of their LEED® building certification, called LEED v4®. This new version of LEED® has various new requirements and updates (to read more about the updates that pertain to green cleaning, read our blog post and white paper on LEED v4®). In order to get your building certified by LEED®, you need to know the ins and outs of each of the new requirements and how to comply with them. Developing an appropriate green cleaning program can be a great way to progress towards LEED® certification for your facility.

Multi-Clean has provided numerous templates that can be used alongside the new LEED v4® requirements. These templates can be filled out and used to develop a customized green cleaning policy for any facility.

Green Cleaning Policy Template (link)

This template summarizes and explains each aspect of a green cleaning policy, including hard floor care, carpet care, restroom care, hand hygiene, and more. It also provides methods of evaluating cleaning and the green cleaning policy as well as training for personnel.

Enhanced IAQ Strategies (link)

This template summarizes the requirements and procedures for installation and maintenance of entry way systems, including locations of entry way systems and maintenance procedures.

Custodial Effectiveness Assessment (link)

This template provides an assessment to be performed by maintenance personnel to evaluate cleaning effectiveness, as well as rubrics on how to evaluate and grade cleaning.

Products and Materials (link)

This template provides the requirements that purchased products and materials need to meet in order to qualify for the LEED v4® credit, including proper green certification needed for each class of product.

Equipment (link)

This template summarizes the requirements that cleaning equipment must meet in accordance with LEED v4®, along with a phase-out plan for any equipment that does not meet requirements.

Integrated Pest Management (link)

This template provides a pest management program designed to comply with LEED v4®, including a pest management audit to determine what areas of your pest management program need to be revised.

Although these templates can play a crucial role in assisting facilities to obtain LEED v4® certification, they can be used for any facility that wishes to develop a green cleaning program. It is beneficial for any facility to follow the guidelines put forth in these templates; having a green cleaning policy will help any facility become more environmentally friendly, being cleaner, healthier, and producing less waste. Having a green cleaning program can also increase productivity without increasing budgets, leading to long-run cost-savings.
