triclosan hand washTriclosan is a chemical component that was discontinued by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) September 6th, 2016. Manufacturers were to remove existing Triclosan products off the market after failing to provide new sufficient data securing safety of a product’s usage as of September 6 2017. Industrialist facilities are shifting to Triclosan free products in their consumer products. Health care facilities were exempt from the Triclosan ban in products like antibacterial hand sanitizers, sanitizing wipes, and surgical hand scrubs.

A benefit to the Triclosan ban is less exposure in cleaning facilities. Janitors or custodians who regularly refill hand hygiene dispensers are no longer exposed to high concentrations of Triclosan. Some hazards linked to Triclosan are potential harm to the immune system, increased development of allergies, and decreased levels of some thyroid hormones.

Effective as of December 2018, products containing Triclosan are to be removed from the market. This is not the only outcome for cleaning facilities. Manufacturers can reformulate the product. Approval as a new drug can undergo additional approval as a new drug usage, or become reformulated and approved. This is the FDA requirement and final ruling of the triclosan ban.

The purpose of an antibacterial disinfectant is to assist in killing bacteria. Multi-clean offers Foamy Pro, a hand soap containing a safer antibacterial agent called Parachlorometaxylenol (PCMX). This is used as a mild disinfecting and sanitary product found in households and hospitals for skin disinfecting. PCMX is not considerably toxic to humans due to its level of pH balance and low percentage of concentration. Rich, stable lather leaves skin clean and refreshed. Ideal for use in offices, schools, clinics, industry, health care, health clubs/fitness centers, preschools, and restaurants, etc. Delightful, fresh scent creates a cleaner, more attractive, environment. For use in refillable foam soap dispenser programs.

Multi-Clean offers a full line of hand and skin care options. For more information, visit our skin care web page.
